Relay Service Robot Provides "Max" Impact at DC Boutique Hotel
Meet Max — the robot butler who went from novelty to one of The Concordia's most popular amenities.
About
The Concordia, Washington DC
A four-star boutique hotel in Washington DC's Dupont Circle, The Concordia offers 121 fully-equipped rooms across 10 floors to a largely international clientele. Originally built for UN-affiliated students and guests, it now operates as a multilingual "home away from home" — with staff fluent in English, Spanish, French, and Arabic.
Challenge
Deliveries were slow, and security couldn't wait
With a lean front desk team and strict security policies preventing outside delivery staff from entering the hotel, room deliveries were taking over 30 minutes. Food got cold. Staff had to leave the lobby unattended. DoorDash and Uber Eats orders were piling up with no efficient way to get them upstairs.
Meet Max — a robot built for security, speed, and the occasional heroic delivery
Adopted in 2018 and named by a hotel-wide vote, Max handles Door Dash orders, sundries, and room deliveries — all in under 10 minutes round-trip. Front desk staff load him up without ever leaving the lobby. He runs day and night, keeps food hot, and once returned a lost teddy bear to a five-year-old who called him her hero.

Testimonial
"Early on, Max was a novelty. Now, he's an innovative service, featured on our website, and one of our most popular amenities along with our swimming pool and gym."
