Relay Robots Deliver Strong ROI across BayCare Health System Hospitals
Meet Beaker, Hygeia, Stork, and Miles — the robot fleet giving nurses more time at the bedside across three Florida hospitals.
About
BayCare Health System
A leading not-for-profit academic health system serving the Tampa Bay and central Florida regions, BayCare connects individuals and families to a wide range of services across 16 hospitals. Committed to smart, secure innovation, BayCare partnered with Relay Robotics to deploy autonomous delivery robots across multiple hospital locations — improving care team efficiency and patient outcomes system-wide.
Challenge
Manual specimen runs were pulling nurses away from patients
Several BayCare hospitals lack pneumatic tube systems in key departments, forcing nurses and technicians to manually transport lab specimens, medications, and supplies across units and floors. In fast-paced, short-staffed environments, these runs consumed valuable clinical time that should have been spent at the bedside.
In 2025, BayCare deployed Beaker and Hygeia at St. Anthony's Hospital to handle lab specimen deliveries across the ICU, CVICU, and dialysis units — autonomously navigating hallways and riding elevators alone, 24/7. Results were immediate. In 2026, $140,000 in donor funding brought Stork and Miles to Winter Haven Women's Hospital and Winter Haven Hospital. Stork completed 18 deliveries in her first two days on the floor.
